Import of Spare Parts of Harvester Machines in Pakistan

Project Brief

Title of Project:

Importation of Spare Parts of Harvester Machines

Project Manager:

Shehzad Ahmad

Project Sponsor:

Background:

In Pakistan harvester machines are being used to harvest different crops like wheat, rice, corn and sunflower. Mostly harvester machines are being used in Punjab and Sindh because these provinces are important regarding the agricultural equipments and machines. These machines and equipments are being imported from different countries like Germany, Italy, Holland and Japan. The companies of which the harvester machines are being imported are CLAAS, New Holland, Fiat agro, John Deere and Laverda. The new harvester machines are too expensive to be purchased by the Pakistani importer so the importers are importing the second hand harvester machines. There are no specific importers or companies who are importing these machines. These harvester machines are being imported by some persons who individually import these second hand machines. The life of these second hand machines has been expired that is why they cost cheaply to the importers. The most commonly used harvester machine in Punjab is New Holland. Also other machines like Fiat agro, John Deer, Laverda and CLAAS are also present in Pakistan. But there number is less as compared to New Holland

In this project, we shall target only the customers present in Punjab. There are a lot of customers of spare parts of harvester machines and of its engines. . Mostly the spare parts of harvester machines are second hand in nature and are not easily available in the market. Whenever a customer needs any kind of spare part for his harvester machine, he feels greater difficulty to find his desired product or spare part because some of the spare parts are rare in the market or and even some of them are not available. Same is the case about the engines of the harvester machines. Only second hand engines and second hand spare parts of the engines are available in the market, which are imported from the countries mentioned above but these spare parts are being imported in scrap.

These pare parts include parts of engine, gears, variable pullies and chains etc. The major stores of these spare parts in Punjab are Johar autos, Shadab autos and Punjab autos. These spare parts are second hand because Pakistani importers don’t have the purchasing power to import the new equipments also the importation of the new spare parts is very costly due to the imposition of the import duty and other logistics. But now a days Pakistan’s government has reduced the import duty on the import of the agricultural equipment.

In Pakistan the spare parts of the harvester machinery are being manufactured in Gujranwala by the Sajjad Agro, Ittehad Agro and Madina Agro but they produce these spare parts below the standards so, the formers preferred to use the imported second hand spare parts. If they increase the quality of these spare parts they become so costly.

So, there is a great potential to import both new as well as second hand spare parts of harvester machines and engines and to sell them in the market to fulfill the demand of the market.
